STEP 1: Use a standard 1 Gallon water or milk jug. Clean it out, remove all outside labels. Then measure 2 1/2” from the base. With a pencil, make a line around the entire container.

STEP 2: Print out your pattern. Tape it to the front & center of the container. Trace your pattern. Cut around the pattern and container seams. But avoid cutting the 2 1/2” base border.

STEP 3: After cutting, your container will feel a bit flimsy. It will bend easy. Be very careful not to crease the font of the container where the focal point will be. Hold from the handle.

STEP 4: Sand down areas of the container, then paint the outside with Gesso paint. This is thicker and will fill and cover any imperfections or markings. Paint the inside any desired color.

STEP 5: Cut out the remaining parts of the pattern. I used an X-acto knife, but you can use what works best for you. You can also use felt or googly eyes for parts of the face.

STEP 6: If you want to add whiskers, puncture small holes around the nose area. Cut 5” pipe cleaners and insert them in a criss/cross pattern on the inside of the container.

STEP 7: Since I’m a lover of all things Hello Kitty, I decided not to include a mouth. I used acrylic paint for the eyes nose. I just like it better than water color. Almost done!

STEP 8: Add any embellishments you desire. I picked these cute stickers from the dollar store. But you can paint or personalize it as you wish. I wanted to keep this one minimal.

STEP 9: And there you have it. Again, you can be as elaborate with this as you want. I just wanted to keep it clean & simple. Hope you get inspired and do something fun!

STEP 10: Ready for Easter! Have fun making your own Easter basket as I did!
